The Healing of a Paralytic
Mark 2:1-12
When Jesus returned to Capernaum after some days,
it became known that he was at home.
Many gathered together so that there was no longer room for them,
not even around the door,
and he preached the word to them.
They came bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men.
Unable to get near Jesus because of the crowd,
they opened up the roof above him.
After they had broken through,
they let down the mat on which the paralytic was lying.
When Jesus saw their faith, he said to him,
“Child, your sins are forgiven.”
Now some of the scribes were sitting there asking themselves,
“Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming.
Who but God alone can forgive sins?”
Jesus immediately knew in his mind what
they were thinking to themselves,
so he said, “Why are you thinking such things in your hearts?
Which is easier, to say to the paralytic,
‘Your sins are forgiven,’
or to say, ‘Rise, pick up your mat and walk’?
But that you may know
that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on earth”
–he said to the paralytic,
“I say to you, rise, pick up your mat, and go home.”
He rose, picked up his mat at once,
and went away in the sight of everyone.
They were all astounded
and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this.”

Pinagaling ni Jesus ang Paralitiko
Marcos 2:1-12

This gospel episode celebrates marvelous connections or bonds. First, the holistic bond within an individual. Jews conceive of a human being as a holistic creature: Body and spirit are one. Good health means that one is in right terms with God.
Second, the communal bond of faith. A sick person can be forgiven or healed because of the faith of someone healthy who intercedes on one’s behalf. The companions of the paralytic have faith which overcomes paralyzing barriers: The crowd, the roof of the house which stands between them and Jesus, their own doubts and fears, the possibility of failure or rejection.
Third, the uninterrupted divine bond of the Father and the Son in the Godhead. They share one restorative, forgiving, and healing power. Jesus the Son of God can grant forgiveness and healing simultaneously and instantaneously. Forgiveness is an inner reality. Physical healing is verifiable and implies inner restoration. The evangelist skillfully narrates the marvelous interplay of these three bonds to weave a tale of God’s triumph over sin, sickness, and unbelievers. His message is good news indeed to persons of faith and goodwill.

God bless us always!
The healing of he paralytic was made possible by four friends which has the same strong faith and the owner of the house whose roof was broken. It was this common bond of faith where Jesus has shown the mercy, compassion and healing being the son of God.
True faith can overcome obstacles in our way, in times of trials and when God is our only last hope where he delivers us from sin and restore our role as the children of God.
Thank you for your reflection. God bless you more.
